Best Outdoor Pool Tables (2026): Weatherproof Picks
A real outdoor pool table costs more than most people expect. At specialist dealers the mainstream models start a little over $5,000, and design-brand tables run past $15,000. What you get for that is a table where every layer, from the frame to the cloth to the bolts, is built to handle sun and damp air through the seasons.
The detail most buyers miss: several of the best-known outdoor tables are designed for a covered patio, not an open lawn. Brunswick's own setup notes for its Lanai table say to put it in a covered area away from direct rain and sun. So the first decision is where the table will sit. The table itself comes second.
Covered patio or open yard: decide this first
Makers sell these tables as outdoor tables, but read their setup notes. Brunswick tells Lanai owners to install the table in a covered area away from direct rain and sun and to keep a UV-resistant cover on it between games. RS Barcelona builds its Diagonal outdoor table for covered outdoor spaces, and the company describes the idea as playing under a roof without walls. These are the expensive tables, and their makers still want a roof over them.
That gives you a simple rule.
- Covered patio, pergola with a solid roof, screened lanai or pool house: any true outdoor table works, including the slate-bed models, which play the best.
- Open deck or patio with no roof: pick a table with a non-slate weather bed and a metal frame, keep a fitted cover on it whenever nobody is playing, and expect the cloth to fade sooner.
- Open lawn or grass: don't. A pool table needs a level base, and grass moves under 500 pounds.
If the table will sit in a garage instead, the problem is different (humidity and temperature, not rain). Our pool table in a garage guide covers that case.
The three kinds of outdoor pool table
Everything sold as an outdoor pool table falls into one of these groups. The specs below come from the makers' own pages and listings.
| Type | Bed | Examples | Weight | Best spot |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Outdoor slate table | 1 in three-piece slate, backed with a weather-rated board | Brunswick Lanai 8 ft, Legacy Cumberland 7 ft and 8 ft | 615 to 735 lb (Legacy figures) | Covered patio |
| Composite, fiber-cement or HDF table | 1 in composite (Playcraft Extera), 1 in HDF (Hathaway Alpine) or 20 mm fiber-cement panel (RS Barcelona Diagonal) | Playcraft Extera 8 ft, Hathaway Alpine 8 ft, RS Barcelona Diagonal 6, 7 and 8 ft | About 306 lb for the Alpine, 529 lb for the 8 ft Diagonal | Covered or open patio with a cover |
| Indoor/outdoor game table | Thin board or MDF | Folding 4.5 ft tables, 7 ft MDF flip-top combos | Light | Indoors, carried out for a party |
The first two are outdoor pool tables. The third is a game table with a sticker on the box, and we cover why further down.
Slate outdoors surprises people. Brunswick's Lanai uses 1 inch certified slate backed with all-weather carbonized pine, and Legacy's Cumberland uses 1 inch slate on marine-grade high-density fiberboard. That backing is what keeps the slate from shifting as the seasons change, and it is why these tables are sold for covered spots. If you want slate roll outside, this is how you get it.
What each layer has to survive
An outdoor table fails at its weakest layer, so ask about every one of them before you buy.
Frame and rails
Look for powder-coated aluminum or steel, or a hardwood that is sold for outdoor use. The Playcraft Extera uses extruded aluminum rails, aprons and legs on a tubular beam sub-frame with an anti-rust coating. Brunswick pairs aluminum rails with an outdoor powder coat. Legacy goes the other way with solid tropical hardwood. RS Barcelona uses powder-coated steel with iroko wood legs. All four approaches work. Plain particleboard or MDF anywhere in the structure does not.
Bed
Covered in the table above: backed slate for covered patios, composite or fiber-cement where the table sees more weather. Ask what the slate is backed with. A bare MDF backer under slate is an indoor build.
Cushions and pockets
Legacy, Playcraft and RS Barcelona all list K66 profile cushions, the same profile most home tables use. Legacy fits outdoor drop pockets. That is the design we'd want outside anyway: a ball-return channel is one more place for water and leaves to collect.
Hardware
Brunswick specifies stainless steel hardware on the Lanai. If a listing doesn't say what the bolts and leveler threads are made of, ask. Rust streaks on a white powder coat are the first sign a table was built to a price.
Outdoor pool table cloth
Outdoor cloth is a different fabric from indoor wool-blend cloth, and it is the part you will replace first. Three types show up on the tables we checked:
- Solution-dyed acrylic (Legacy Cumberland). The color goes through the fiber, and Legacy rates it resistant to UV, water and mildew.
- Sunbrella 100% acrylic (RS Barcelona Diagonal), the same brand used on patio furniture.
- Treated worsted cloth such as Simonis 760 Outdoor or Simonis Indoor/Outdoor (Brunswick Lanai). Simonis says its 760 Outdoor cloth has a water-resistant treatment, doesn't absorb water and holds off a spill for several hours, and that a UV coating keeps the color and tension stable. The key word in Simonis's description is occasional: it is meant for spills, not overnight rain.
Playcraft lists a weatherproof, UV-resistant polytech cloth on the Extera. None of these makers promises the cloth survives open sun indefinitely, which is why every one of them tells you to cover the table. If you ever need to recover the table, our pool table felt guide explains the indoor choices, but order outdoor cloth from the table's maker so the fabric matches what the frame was designed for.
What outdoor pool tables cost
Prices below are what the makers and one large dealer listed on October 15, 2026. They move, so treat them as ranges, and note that most of these tables need professional installation on top.
| Tier | What it looks like | Listed range |
|---|---|---|
| Mainstream outdoor slate | Brunswick Lanai 8 ft, Legacy Cumberland 7 ft, Legacy Barren and Emory, Imperial Esterno 7 ft | About $5,200 to $6,000 |
| Table plus dining top and benches | American Heritage Lanai full set (table, two benches, dining top, cues and balls) | About $8,000 |
| Design and specialty tables | Triangle Fremont and Elegante, South Beach, Horizon, RS Barcelona Diagonal | About $9,000 to $20,000 |
| Composite and HDF builds sold online | Hathaway Alpine 8 ft, Playcraft Extera 8 ft | Price on Amazon (shown live on this page) |
Where does that leave the searcher looking for an outdoor pool table sale or a cheap one? A true outdoor table rarely drops below the mainstream tier, because the materials cost what they cost. The exception is the composite and HDF tables sold online, like the Hathaway Alpine and Playcraft Extera, which trade slate roll for a lower price and live prices you can check on this page. Year-end clearance and floor models at a local billiards dealer are the realistic way to save. A used outdoor table can be a good buy too (see the FAQ), but check the frame for corrosion first.
Space and setup on a patio
Cue room doesn't change because you're outside. Brunswick's room size chart calls for 13 by 16 feet around a 7 foot table and 13 by 17 feet around an 8 foot table with standard 58 inch cues. Railings, steps, a grill or the pool edge all count as walls. If one side is tight, a 52 or 48 inch cue cuts the need to about 12 by 15 feet. Our room size guide has the full chart.
Put the table on a solid surface. Imperial suggests outdoor tile or a concrete patio. A deck can work if it is built for the load: Legacy lists the Cumberland at 615 pounds for the 7 foot and 735 pounds for the 8 foot, and that weight sits on four legs. Ask a builder about the deck before the delivery truck shows up.
Most of these tables are installed by a technician, and Brunswick lists professional installation as required for the Lanai. One detail from Brunswick's notes is worth passing to your installer: in hot climates leveling and seam work should use a heat-resistant material, because beeswax (the usual seam filler) melts at 140 degrees Fahrenheit. A dark table in summer sun can get there. Releveling after the first season is normal; our leveling guide shows how to check it.
Lighting decides whether you play after dark. Under a pergola or patio roof, a hanging light rated for damp locations over the table works best. In the open, string lights and path lights around the area are the usual fix. See our pool table lights guide for sizing and hanging height.
Covers for an outdoor pool table
Every maker we checked tells you to cover the table between games, and RS Barcelona includes a cover with the Diagonal. Brunswick and Legacy don't include one, so budget for it on day one.
For outdoor use, look for a waterproof, UV-resistant fabric, a fit for your exact table size, and a way to secure it against wind. Legacy recommends an outdoor cover that reaches the ground, which keeps blowing rain off the legs and frame too. A fitted bed cover that only wraps the rails is an indoor product. Our pool table covers guide compares materials and fits, and the hard covers guide covers rigid tops that sit on the rails.
Outdoor pool table with a dining top or ping pong
An outdoor pool table that turns into a patio dining table is a real product. American Heritage sells a matching dining top for the Lanai in three panels of about 30 pounds each, finished in the same outdoor powder coat, and Brunswick offers a dining top and storage benches for the Lanai as add-ons. If the table will sit where your patio table used to, this is the version to buy. Our dining pool tables guide covers seating height and storage for the indoor versions, and the same advice applies outside.
Pool and ping pong outside is harder. We did not find a true outdoor pool table sold with an outdoor-rated table tennis top. Indoor conversion tops are wood or MDF and should not be left out in weather. If you want both games on the patio, a separate outdoor ping pong table with an aluminum composite top folds up and rolls away, and it plays better than any conversion top. For indoor combos, see our pool tables with ping pong tops guide.
Some 7 foot 4-in-1 flip-top tables on Amazon say Outdoor/Indoor in the title. Their own listings describe MDF construction. Treat them as indoor game tables.
Cheap outdoor pool tables: what you actually get
Search for an outdoor pool table on Amazon and the cheap results are mostly folding game tables. A typical example is a 4.5 foot folding table with a 55 by 31 inch top and net pockets, sold for indoor and outdoor games. It is a toy-grade table. It's fine for kids on a driveway for an afternoon, and it goes back in the garage afterward.
Nothing in that price range is built to live outside. If the budget is a few hundred dollars, buy an indoor table for a dry room (our pool tables under $500 guide has the honest options) and carry a folding table out for parties. You'll get a better game and won't throw money at a table that warps in its first humid month.
DIY projects run into the same wall. Building a frame is doable, but outdoor cloth and a bed that stays flat in the weather are the hard parts, and they're sold by the same makers as the finished tables.
Care through the year
- After each session, brush loose dirt and leaves off the cloth so grit doesn't grind in, then put the cover back on.
- Wipe spills right away. Brunswick says stains come out easier when fresh and recommends mild soap and water with a soft brush or sponge, never household cleaners or abrasives.
- After a storm, check under the cover. If water got in, pull the cover off and let the table dry in the shade.
- Every few weeks, clean the frame with the same mild soap and look for rust spots at the bolts and leg levelers.
- Before winter, ask your maker what they recommend for your climate. The retailer blog we read says extreme snow or heat may need extra protection or storage, and that matches what the makers say about covered locations.
- Each spring, check level and have the installer adjust it if balls drift.
Which one we'd buy
For a covered patio or lanai, an outdoor slate table like the Brunswick Lanai or Legacy Cumberland. It plays like an indoor table and the extra money goes into the parts that matter.
For a more exposed spot, a composite or fiber-cement table with a metal frame. The Playcraft Extera is the one you can order online, and a fitted outdoor cover goes in the same cart.
For the lowest price on a table that is actually built for outdoors, the Hathaway Alpine 8 ft: rust-resistant aluminum rails, weather-resistant felt, K-55 gum rubber cushions and a nylon cover in the box, on a 1-inch HDF bed rather than slate. At about 306 pounds with a one-year warranty, it's a backyard game table, not a lanai heirloom, so cover it every time.
For an open lawn or a tight budget, skip the outdoor table entirely and put an indoor table in a dry room.

Can I put an indoor pool table outside with a cover?
No. Indoor tables use wool-blend cloth, MDF or bare slate backers and ordinary hardware, none of which is rated for damp air or sun. A cover slows the damage but doesn't stop humidity from getting in. If the table lives outside, buy one built for it.
Are outdoor pool tables slate?
Some are. Brunswick's Lanai and Legacy's Cumberland use 1 inch three-piece slate backed with weather-rated board, and both are meant for covered patios. Others use a composite bed (Playcraft Extera) or a fiber-cement panel (RS Barcelona Diagonal).
Do outdoor pool tables play as well as indoor tables?
An outdoor slate table on a covered patio uses the same kind of bed as an indoor slate table, and Legacy's uses the same K66 cushion profile, so it should roll much like one. Composite beds don't have slate's track record for staying flat, and synthetic surfaces can change how the balls move. Casual players rarely mind; league players will notice.
How much does an outdoor pool table cost?
Mainstream outdoor tables from Brunswick, Legacy and Imperial were listed at about $5,200 to $6,000 in October 2026, before installation. Design tables run about $9,000 to $20,000. Anything far below that is a folding game table, not an outdoor table.
Can an outdoor pool table stay outside all winter?
The makers we checked want the table under a roof and covered. Whether it can sit through freezing weather depends on the model, so ask the maker before you buy if you live where it snows. Uncovered winter storage shortens cloth life on any table.
Does an outdoor pool table come with a cover?
Sometimes. RS Barcelona includes one with the Diagonal. Brunswick and Legacy sell their tables without one, and Legacy recommends an outdoor cover that reaches the ground.
Is a used outdoor pool table worth buying?
It can be, since the frames last. Check for rust or corrosion at bolts and leg levelers, faded or mildewed cloth (budget to replace it), and whether the bed is still flat. Moving and releveling cost the same as for any slate table. Our used pool table guide lists what to inspect.
What about Olhausen or Panama Jack outdoor tables?
Both names come up often in searches. We could not confirm current specs for either from the makers' own pages, so ask the dealer the same questions this guide covers: frame material, bed and backer, cloth type, hardware, and whether the table is meant for covered or open placement.
What size outdoor pool table should I get?
Most outdoor tables come in 7 or 8 foot sizes. Brunswick's chart calls for 13 by 16 feet of space for a 7 foot table and 13 by 17 feet for an 8 foot, with standard 58 inch cues. If the patio is smaller, pick the 7 foot and keep a 52 inch cue for the tight side.
